  Jill Batten

After achieving a B.A. (hons) degree in Fine Art I have continued to develop my work and frequently exhibit. My work is a creative response to images stored over years of travel and a love of the effect of time on the surfaces of buildings and geology. The starting point for my work is often a drawing or photograph, at times even a rubbing of a surface or an actual sample of rock collected from a beach or a derelict building. In my studio, memories distilled over time take over. I work with mixed media, continually experimenting with paint and various materials, building complex layers until the painting begins to emerge unplanned and spontaneous.

My new body of work has evolved from this way of working, combining found materials and paint to create a sculptural wall object.
