Rita Fletcher
Iam interested in the power of the image and its ability to evoke different associations and emotions in the mind of the viewer. I employ the potential of its various interpretations and readings, as a single frame or as part of a sequence and meaning is often placed on the objects photographed to convey metaphors.
I find interesting the concept that everything, even inanimate objects, have a secret soul and that they take on a mysterious energy or animation and expand beyond their appearance which has lead me to an interest in the 'uncanny' and the importance of the everyday.
My practice has developed out of my broader interests in literature, music and the cinema, in particular a fascination for 'Mystery', and how this is conveyed or suggested within the Arts.
Although originally from Ireland I live and work in Birmingham and I have an M.A in Fine Art
