  Paula Hamilton

In recent years I have been living close to where I was born on the borders of Worcestershire and Warwickshire.  And I feel certain that the oak trees and rolling fields that I observed and remembered as a small child have an extra resonance now that I paint them as an adult.  It’s hard not to respond to what is around me, the changing natural effects of climate, skies and seasons over land forms.

My Art education took place in London, ending with 2 years at the Royal College of Art where I studied textile design.  As a young graduate I spent several years earning a living as a London based designer where I sold hand painted silks and batiks to fashion designers.  At that time, Nature was already the central theme of my work and it continues to be my inspiration.  It offers an infinite variety of shapes and forms which offer plenty of scope for interpretation.

My chosen medium is acrylic paints which I use on canvas both as watery washes and in much thicker forms.  I also enjoy working with textile media and making sculptural work in clay.

I have exhibited my work in towns and cities all over the UK and have sold to private collectors in the UK and Canada.
