Craft and Design Magazine Interview Rachel Gogerly

If you are one of the many readers of Craft and Design magazine you'll be pleasantly surprised to see an feature article on Rachel Gogerly. Angie Boyer the magazine Editor talks at length with Rachel abouot her work, passion and the ups and downs of her career so far.

"There is a consistency in Rachel's work that reflects the commitment, passion and enthusiasm that are major factors in her approach to everything she does. Rachel has established a style of her own which is readily recognised and - with a sound business head on her shoulders - has progressed through those 25 years in a way that has created an appreciative audience for her award winning work"   .....Angie Boyer

Rachel gave an illuminating presentation to SAF in May 2011 and for those who could attend you'll recognise a lot of the themes in the article.

"To be successful you have to embrace all aspects of running a small business. You have to have a sense of what you want to achieve, how you promote and market your work, how you run your workshop - as well as actually making your work, it's all part of being a self-employed craftsman." .....Rachel Gogerly

Well written and beautifully presented, the article and magazine is well worth picking up, for more information on the publication visit www.CraftandDesign.net

Stuart Spencer becomes a Journalist!

"When I joined SAF Jackie Mackay told me of the Redline website and that they had posted that they thought I was no longer in existence. I found this amusing as I am a great admirer of the work of the person who posted my demise, good news was he said nice things!"

I was invited to contribute an article, because in the last issue Barry Hunter (editor) had discovered and enthused about the Autosport Forum for Cutaway Artwork. I am an active contributing member for this forum and so was happy to provide an article on this subject".

Art Trail 2011

In the mind of many SAF members, the Art Trail is the single most important art event of the year.  It has now established itself as a recognised annual happening and continues to attract lots of visitors.
The 1,000 leaflets that were distributed far and wide, coupled with the publicity we received in the local press, ensured that a record number of art lovers followed the Art Trail this year.  It was good to see so many returning visitors as well as first-timers and many complimentary comments were received from them.

What makes taking part in the Art Trail so enjoyable is that participants have the opportunity to talk to visitors, explain their work and discuss art-related issues.  Given that one of SAF's aspirations is to 'raise the profile of the Arts in the Solihull area', what could be a better vehicle to do this than the Art Trail?  Of course, selling our work is also desireable and sales this year were strong.
In 2012 our new and improved website will be up and running and SAF will be represented better than ever.
Also in 2012 we plan to have more SAF artists demonstrating their skills over the week-end, two or more artists at each venue, a better map for visitors to navigate from and, of course, brilliant sunshine.
We're looking forward to it already!
