Frances Townley

Frances is Birmingham born and worked as a teacher there for many years. She works mainly in oil and her subjects are usually faces and hands. She has exhibited in and around Birmingham since her BA at Solihull College and PGD at Coventry University and has sold work through exhibitions and through commercial galleries

In 2007 Frances was accepted as an associate member of the Royal Birmingham Society for Artists

'I love to represent the expressions that we show through our hands and faces and though much of my drawing is from life I usually start my paintings from photographs with high emotional content. These are then developed, often using colours from food or natural objects. I am always looking for new techniques to use but am passionate about oil paint and its versatility'.
